how mascara is made

There are two types of mascara that are manufactured. One type is anhydrous this contains no water and the second type is the emulsion method that contains a lotion base.

In the Anhydrous method (Waterproof mascara) all the ingredients are mixed together in a kettle or a tank and makes around a batch of 10 tubes of mascara. The first thing they do is measure the ingredients very carefully and weighed

There are two different ways to make mascara. In the waterproof mascara method all the ingredients are mixed and heated together. In the emulsion method they mix thickeners and water together and the waxes and emulsifiers are mixed and heated separately. The pigments are added into both the mixtures before they are all added together. Then the lotion and wax are mixed together. They then use a machine called the homogenizer. The homogenizer mixes the ingredients at a high speed that doesn’t let any air come in so it doesn’t evaporate.
